I get it.
Odd and I’ve been spending the holiday together now since the 18th. That means we’ve been in each others presence pretty much 24 hours a day for two weeks and this is starting to take its toll on things. What we usually see as complementing qualities in one another are now becoming annoying. Take my way of handling ”perfection” for example. I like it when you try to speed up a process and I’d rather get things done fast, it doesn’t matter if it comes out perfect in the end as long as it gets done. That’s my life philosophy, but Odd’s not like that. He gets stuck and wants to take one thing at the time and to me that’s just inefficiency.
Here’s two examples:
1. Making sure the kitchen is spotless after every meal. Come on, we eat three meals and two snacks every day in this house. If you’re going to polish the kitchen surfaces after making every single sandwich you won’t leave the house before it gets dark outside.
2. Fixing some screw/drilling holes etc. How can one constantly find new details that needs fixing and then spend hours fixing them? Take notes on everything that needs to be done and call a craftsman to come over and fix everything at the same time.
I completely understand that you want a nice, well functioning house with no loose doorknobs. I get that. But if you get lost in all those details every day you miss out on so much family time. I go outside with the kids all the time and I love doing so, but it would’ve been nice with some company more often. Why occupy yourself with this fixing constantly? I’m starting to think this detail-work is my husband’s version of a Man Cave. I mean, it’s more accepted to go to a warehouse with building materials like Beijer bygg than sitting in the couch playing video games. Hmmm… Some other wife out there relating to this?!
